The story of this special timepiece dates back to the start of the fifth Paris-Dakar in 1983.
That’s the year that Cartier’s CEO at the time,Alain Dominique Perrin,approached the event’s founder,Thierry Sabine.
Perrin came up with the idea ofoffering a brilliant prize to anyone who could accomplish what both considered truly impossible:winning the Paris-Dakar two years in a row using the same vehicle category.
But the pair hadn’t counted on the remarkable talent and superhuman endurance of the diminutive motorcycle racer Gaston Rahier.

The Belgian rider was the three-time 125cc motocross world champion who,after giving up racing,became a rally raid superstar.
He did so on an imposing and unwieldy BMW,a fact that makes the double victory even more impressive.
Rahier was only 1.64 m tall in his riding boots.
Cartier Cheich Watch Replicas Uk
As soon as the Cartier Challenge was announced,Rahier achieved victory in the 1984 event.
He followed it up with a win in 1985,thus fulfilling the requirements of the Cartier Challenge.
His prize was the Cheich-watch replicas uk.

Inspired by the rally logo—the silhouette of a Tuareg tribesman wearing the traditional cotton headgear known as a“cheich”—the watch is forged in three colors of 18-karat gold(white,rose,and yellow).
The result is a monumental case that painstakingly replicates each of the garment’s soft folds.
Only three Cheich watch replicas uk are known to have been created:the one awarded to Rahier;
Another for a potential female winner;and a third made in 1985 for anyone else who achieved the necessary double victory.
The Cartier Challenge,however,ended almost as quickly as it had begun due to the sudden death of Thierry Sabine in a helicopter crash in Mali caused by a sandstorm toward the end of the 1986 event.

Sotheby’s will offer the Rahier Cheich at its Paris watch auction in September.
It has a pre-sale estimate of€200,000–€400,000.
But that might prove to be very conservative,as the value of vintage Cartier pieces has been on a steep upward trajectory over the past three years.
