As Breitling celebrates its 140th anniversary,it’s the perfect opportunity to commemorate this milestone with stories of its remarkable innovations.
From its advancements in timekeeping for land, sea, and air to its achievements in sustainability.

This month, the brand honors two of its icons. One of them is the Navitimer, the first pilot’s wristwatch to combine a chronograph with a slide rule.
And then there’s the Cosmonaute, the 24-hour version of the Navitimer that became the first Swiss wristwatch in space.
Breitling has just unveiled new versions of these lines:
The Navitimer GMT and the Automatic 41,along with a new Cosmonaute with an automatic movement.
BACK TO BASICS:THE VERSATILE NAVITIMER GMT AND AUTOMATIC 41 WATCH REPLICAS UK
Breitling played a key role in the rise of commercial aviation.
Its watches became standard equipment, first on propeller planes and later on jet aircraft from leading aircraft manufacturers worldwide.
When the Breitling Navitimer design was launched in 1952,it was an instant hit with airline pilots in the then-nascent field of civil aviation.
The Navitimer featured a circular slide rule that allowed pilots to perform essential calculations, such as rate of climb and fuel consumption.
In the glory days of commercial air travel, the Navitimer was the first wrist-worn onboard computer and the one that ultimately established Breitling as the”official supplier to the aviation world.”
Breitling began redesigning the Navitimer line in 2022,starting with the original chronograph.
This update continues today with two new,smaller versions:a GMT and a three-hand Automatic,both in a comfortable,universal 41mm size.

These watches distill the iconic look of the Navitimer, omitting the chronograph but maintaining a balanced dial composition.
The central placement of the 24-hour scale on the GMT and the clean dial of the Automatic ensure that the intricate slide rule stands out, while also enhancing the overall aesthetic of the model.
To further refine the collection,Breitling incorporated a serrated bezel for a contemporary touch, along with alternating polished and brushed finishes that create a dynamic play of light.
Alligator leather straps and seamless butterfly clasp bracelets offer comfort and functionality.
GROUNDED ELEGANCE:THE COSMONAUTE B12 WITH AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT
In 1962,Scott Carpenter,a Mercury Seven astronaut, approached Breitling with a unique request:
To modify the Navitimer design for space exploration.
Admiring its computational abilities,Carpenter asked for a 24-hour dial to distinguish day from night while in orbit.
Breitling accepted the challenge, and that customized Navitimer, later christened the Cosmonaute, accompanied Carpenter on his mission on May 24,1962,becoming the first Swiss wristwatch in space.
The new release is limited to 250 pieces and is available exclusively online and in Breitling boutiques.

It features an 18K red gold case, beautifully complemented by its deep green dial, gold numerals, and black alligator strap.
Turning the watch over, the open case back reveals the oscillating weight, which,in a contrasting color, conceals the B12 movement.
The in-house caliber provides approximately 70 hours of power and comes with a 5-year warranty.
An engraving on the case back indicates its exclusivity,”One of 250,”and reveals the watch’s incredible history:
”First Swiss Wristwatch in Space/Navitimer Cosmonaute May 24,1962.”
Inspired by astronauts and adapted to life on Earth, the new Cosmonaute limited edition merges the brand’s historical legacy with the ease of use required by modern life.
